Root to Fruit

Root to Fruit is a carbon-offsetting project that is committed to reforestation in Malawi. The project was born of a partnership between Central African Wilderness Safaris (Malawi) and Southbound Travel Group (Sweden), and Master Banda, a veteran forester who co-ordinates the project in the field. The social enterprise offers you the opportunity to become carbon neutral in your travel adventures, business ventures, or daily life, by purchasing trees which are planted in designated plots in Chintheche, Malawi.

By buying a batch of trees from Root to Fruit not only will you be able to offset some of your carbon emissions and combat climate change, you will also be able to aid the reforestation of the country and support local communities. All Root to Fruit trees are planted in schools, villages, centres and homes in Chintheche, so your trees will directly improve soil and air quality, provide shade and create income-generating activities as well as employment and training opportunities.

The Root to Fruit education centre is located on the grounds of Chintheche Inn and you are welcome to take a free tour of the nurseries to see the project in action and observe the impact that it is making first-hand.
