Thawale Lodge
Thawale Lodge
Situated in Majete Wildlife Reserve, in the Lower Shire Valley, one hour drive from Blantyre, Thawale Lodge provides excellent accommodation for visitors wishing to enjoy game viewing in the newly re-stocked reserve. Long neglected, Majete has been the scene of an impressive programme of re-location. To date 3,200 animals from 16 different species have been reintroduced including the big five, leopard, elephant, buffalo, black rhino and lion. Other mammals reintroduced include eland, sable, waterbuck, nyala, hartebeest, impala, zebra, warthog, bush pig, giraffe and cheetah. The re-birth of Majete has been the work of the organisation African Parks.
Thawale is a peaceful haven from which to experience Majete, situated around a serene floodlit waterhole that attracts a variety of wildlife. Completely unfenced, the camp is regularly visited by wildlife.
Thawale offers six double and twin tented chalets all en-suite and each with its own private veranda overlooking the waterhole. The more luxurious chalet has a unique open air bathroom built among the rocks with a shower and a sunken bath and views of the floodlit waterhole. The lodge also has a family chalet with two en-suite rooms, a kitchen and small living area. It can sleep up to six people. The chalets are spaced out to offer visitors privacy and an individual bush experience. A communal lapa (traditional lounge area) with a fully staffed kitchen is available in the centre of the camp. Fresh meals are served in the beautiful thatched restaurant and bar with a birding veranda. Thawale is fully electrified and chalets have sockets, phone network and fans.
