In a move that will bring more tourists to Malawi, South African Airways have announced the resumption of flights to Lilongwe and Blantyre from O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa.
With flights beginning from 16th March 2023, tickets have been on sale since 6th February 2023. Flights will be on a twice weekly basis, flying on both Thursday and Saturdays. Morning fights from O.R. Tambo will first arrive at Chileka International Airport in Blantyre around midday, with onward flights to the Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe shortly after. Serving both of Malawi’s international airports offers much more variety for visitors when planning their visit to Malawi. Mid-afternoon flights will then depart Lilongwe back to Johannesburg.
With Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport serving flights across all continents, it is now easier than ever to reach Malawi. Simply fly into Johannesburg with your chosen airline, and get a connecting flight straight up to Malawi! South African Airways are part of Star Alliance Airlines, a collective of 26 member airlines that offer seamless connection flights across the world, and all within one booking. So, passengers travelling to Johannesburg on a Star Alliance flight will be able to continue on to Malawi with SAA on a single ticket.
