In what has been a challenging period for many companies working in tourism during the pandemic, The Responsible Safari Company (RSC) were no different but have come out the other side and have shared all the good news that’s been happening recently in their quarterly newsletter. Find out about their rebrand, their work with the Zakwathu Project, and more below.
First of all, RSC are thrilled to inform everyone that they have rebranded from The Responsible Safari Company (RSC) to Orbis Destination Management Company (Orbis DMC). This change has come about as they take advantage of the post-pandemic era ‘reboot’ to align their brand with our UK sister company; Orbis Expeditions, and also to reflect on what they do best. As a DMC providing planning and logistical support for school expeditions, university field trips, charity and adventure challenges as well as looking after independent travellers, they feel that the new branding resonates well with this.
Orbis DMC have also working on a project to create the first ever online database for heritage sites in Malawi. Their team had to physically visit and document the sites, collect GPS coordinates, distances, pictures, videos and the story behind these sites. You can check out one of the videos we took here The Zakwathu Project, meaning ‘from our land’, develops an inventory of the country’s heritage assets, comprising natural and cultural, with the primary aim of helping destination communities identify and interpret their local heritage for the development of sustainable community-based tourism products.
And finally, to offer some inspiration to future visitors to Malawi, Orbis DMC have shared some interesting trips recently arranged by their team:
Richard Brewer – Returning to the Warm Heart of Africa
Richard, who lived in Malawi 55 years ago as a young boy, returned to show his son, Duncan, The Warm Heart of Africa. They took on a 14 day safari starting from the Northern part of Malawi and finished in the Southern part where they departed. During their entire stay, The Brewers visited Nyika National Park, Viphya Plateau, Northern Lake shore, Chongoni Rock Art Paintings in Dedza, Chikwawa and their tour ended at Game Haven lodge in Blantyre where they also have a variety of wildlife.
The U.S Bee Safari
Orbis DMC were delighted to receive a group of 16 Bee keepers from the U.S for a 10 day safari. The group was led by Innocent Kaliati, Managing Director for Orbis DMC who is also a highly experienced guide. The main purpose of the trip was to interact with Malawian Bee keepers and exchange ideas on how best they can practice and benefit from Bee keeping. The group spent most days visiting the local Bee keepers, and other days on Safari which left them with an ecstatic feeling for seeing the wildlife up close.
