Orbis DMC, a tour operator and activity provider in Malawi with strong connections to local community projects in which their guests can be fully involved, have released their latest newsletter. We have summarised their newsletter below, picking out some of the highlights.
Remember the business workshops we hosted in April, 2023?
In April 2023 Orbis DMC hosted business workshops and they’ve now returned! In September, 2023. Malawi business women attended for an informative and engaging session that provided valuable insights and strategies to help succeed in the ever-evolving business landscape. They also had an opportunity to learn from experienced mentors and industry experts who shared their knowledge and expertise in various aspects of business, including Marketing, Mental Health, Proposal Writing and Entrepreneurship in general. A chance to network with fellow participants & mentors, exchange ideas, and gain valuable connections that can potentially lead to collaborations and new opportunities was the highlight of this session.
Florence, a single mother of two and an accountant by profession, is an exceptional young lady who balances her work life and family. In April 2023, she attended the business women workshop where she presented her keen interest in opening her own poultry farm. Her goal was to ‘retire at 30′. During the September workshops, she amused the entire audience after announcing the official opening of the farm, where she now rears 300 chickens. In a few years, Florence aspires to rear 10,000 chicken including other livestock. She owed it all to the business workshops she attended which played a bigger role in shaping her path and practicing proper business methods.

The Orbis team participated in the 2023 run4reforestation event hosted by Zomba Treez. Zomba Forest Lodge hosts this event every year with an aim to pump funds towards the conservation of Zomba Plateau. As a sustainable travel company, it was imperative they participated in this event as one way of supporting the initiative in which they believe in and support.
Sustainability is at the core of Orbis operations and offsetting their carbon footprint is something they take very seriously. Through their Payment for Ecosystems Fund (PES), they donated K2,000,000.00 to ZombaTreez; a conservation project focused on the protection and rehabilitation of Zomba Plateau Forest Reserve.
When you choose to travel with Orbis DMC, 1.5% of your payment goes into the PES fund which supports conservation projects across Malawi.
