Lilongwe Wildlife Trust (LWT), responsible for running Malawi’s only wildlife rehabilitation centre and a key campaigner in Malawi’s fight against wildlife crime, have shared news on all the projects they’ve been involved over the past few months and we’ve chosen some of our favourite stories below.
When a black rhino’s ear tag goes offline, LWT’s Wildlife Emergency Response Unit takes to the air to track it down. It’s no easy feat to tranquillise a moving target from a helicopter but luckily this is not their first rodeo! Five years after cheetahs were reintroduced to Liwonde National Park the population is – with a total of 42 individuals recorded since 2017. Data from this case is now helping the LWT team to understand the factors that influence successful reintroductions and help improve these moves in the future. Read more on this story here.
