Malawi Holidays
Malawi is a country with a huge variety of attractions and its compact size allows its visitors to enjoy a range of experiences and locations without the need for long and arduous journeys. Visitors are always encouraged to travel around rather than stay only in one place, and the journeys and travel are very much part of the attraction. Even a week-long tour would allow you to sample the variety of Wildlife, Landscape, Culture and Lake that the country is known for. If you have 10 or 14 days, or longer, there is always more to explore and discover!
You can use the pages of this website to discover Malawi’s varied attractions and identify the places best for you. Our Touring Malawi Page also has a useful overview to help you start planning an itinerary.
When it then comes to booking your actual holiday to Malawi, it is surprisingly straightforward. Malawi is a very welcoming country, a relatively small one, and although it has a good tourism infrastructure allowing exploration of the whole country, there is not an overwhelming number of hotels and lodges to make property selection an arduous process. Plus – there is always someone friendly and helpful to assist you!
Having used this site to research Malawi and find out which are your favourite locations, activities and even lodges & hotels, a Malawi holiday can be organised in a choice of ways:
International Tour Operators
For those visitors who prefer to leave all of their holiday arrangements in the hands of a near-at-hand bonded tour operator, there are now a large number of Africa-specialist operators in the UK and around the world who know Malawi well and who can put trips together. Check out our International Tour Operator Listings to find one near to you.
Flights + Local Tour Operators
For travellers who prefer to find their own flights and utilise the more detailed country knowledge of a local tour operator, there are 3 airlines that fly to and from Lilongwe on a daily basis and to and from Blantyre almost as frequently. See our Getting There page for more details about the airlines, and other useful information on getting to Malawi.
Once flights are sorted, there are a growing number of easily-contactable Malawi-based tour operators with plenty of experience working for international guests, who have a variety of itineraries available, or are willing to put together any kind of tailor made trip based on your own specific requirements, likes, and budget. Check the Tours, Safaris & Activity directory pages to find one suitable for you.
Independent Travellers
Finally, for more independent travellers, it’s possible to create your own itinerary entirely – directly booking flights, accommodation and transport. Transport can be by transfers from the local operators, self driving or even using public transport. Self driving is relatively easy in Malawi – distances never have to be that great, the roads are well maintained, there are relatively few other vehicles on the roads around the country and if you stick to the main roads, it’s very easy to navigate. Further information about travelling around Malawi can be found on our Getting Around page. And our powerful Malawi Accommodation Filter will help you narrow down and book the lodges, hotels or camps that are best for you.
