As a widely recognised up-and-coming African destination Malawi is quite often the subject of hot travel gossip and articles. Malawi regularly appears in global 'Top Ten' lists and whilst every journalist has a different experience in Malawi, they all return inspired. Please click on the links below to see what well known magazines such as Wanderlust, online sites such as the Huffington Post and national broadsheet such as The Guardian have to say!

December 2013

The success story that is the re-development of Malawi’s Majete Wildlife Reserve warranted a full feature in Travel Africa Magazine – written by Aaron Gekoski and Gemma Catlin. Travel Africa Magazine. Winter 2013-14 Edition. PDF available to view here.

With the development in Malawi’s parks and reserves in recent years, it’s now being taken seriously as a safari destination. This was illustrated perfectly by the appearance of `Majete Reserve in an overview of Best African Safaris in the US magazine Men’s Journal. 20 Dec 2013. Click here to view.

Scottish journalist Gillian Provan wrote of her visit to Malawi on The Skinny website (independent cultural journalism). Taking in the City of Stars Fetsival, Blantyre, Mulanje and Lake Malawi, she summed things up perfectly: “As a tourist Malawi is a stunningly scenic country with fantastic people, gorgeous sights and great culture. … With sun, sandy beaches and delicious food it is a perfect holiday destination just waiting to be discovered.” 29 October 2013. Travel Africa Magazine’s Summer 2013 edition has a great 4-page article on Malawi. Briefly covering the country from south to north, Nicola Grace Rushmere, gives her ‘First Impressions’ on Malawi. March 2013

Stylist.co.uk has this month announced Malawi as one of its top ten destinations in Africa. Featuring Malawi's Lake of Stars the article suggests Malawi is the perfect destination for a 'blissed out and beautiful' stay. Click here to read the full article.

The Sunday times, one of the UK's oldest and best known papers established in 1786, featured Sally Emerson's trip in the footsteps of David Livingstone around Malawi. Looking at the country in all it's picturesqueness, poverty and promise she ends her trip raising a glass to "The unburnished magnificence of Malawi". The Times in March also featured and celebrated Livingstone's birthday with their article "Livingstone's Africa, with added luxury". The Yorkshire Post's 'A Giant's footsteps' article follows Claire Foottit as she tracks the footsteps of famous explorer David Livingstone. The article comes as we celebrate 200 years since his birth. Click here to read the article.

Luxury Web Magazine, dedicated to the art of living well, published Norma Davidoff's glowing review of Kaya Mawa situated on Malawi's Likoma Island. Click here to read the review.

The Telegraph, a national paper in the UK, published Nigel Richardson's uplifting story behind the emergence of one of Malawi's top lodges - Tongoloe in Nkhotakota Wildlife reserve. You can the full article, published in March, by clicking here.

February 2013

Africa.com, the fastest growing Africa-related website, with about five million page views per month from visitors in over 200 countries, highlights the top ten places in Africa and Kaya Mawa on Lake Malawi’s Likoma Island not only make it in but provides the cover picture for the article. January 2013

CD Traveller the online travel advice and review site featured Rupert Parkers 'On Safari in Malawi' article in January where he took a tour round the highlights of southern Malawi. Experience the 'smell of Africa - a combination of eath, dust and sweet blossom' and truly feeling 'the warm heart of Africa' Rupert Parker was overwhelmed by all that Malawi has to offer. The Herald Scotland published Nick Redmayne's wonderfully entertaining account of a visit to Mumbo and Domwe Islands in the Lake Malawi National Park in January 2013. What he describes as 'Malarial dreams' were certainly not purely down to the company of a'bikini-clad American blonde...and her Scandinavian cousin'! Click here to read the full article.

London Glossy Magazine in January published 'The Magic of Malawi'. Written by Sean Seehan, the feature covers Sean's trip around Southern Malawi's highlights. Click here to read his article.

Travel Africa Magazine has been running for the last fifteen years and is a magazine for everyone with a love of the African continent. October - December 2012

Mail on Sunday is one of the UK's largest and most popular online and printed publications. Their article titled 'Go higher, further and faster' was the title of a global round up which featured a Malawi itinerary. You can view the full article by clicking here.

Wild Junket is a online travel site and magazine. In December 2012 it listed Malawi as No.2 in their Top 7 Up and Coming Destinations for 2013. Click here to read the full listing.

The Guardian is one of the UK’s main quality daily newspapers, with a circulation of over half a million. Condé Nast Traveller is one of the UK’s main travel magazines. They published a major Malawi & Zambia feature in mid-2012, which is now available and can be viewed by clicking here.

Lucila Runnacles is a Brazilian freelance journalist. She visited Likoma Island and has published a blog on her website. Click here to visit it.

CNN is probably the world’s largest TV news channel. In ‘Africa’s Most Awesome Sights’ there are no less than 3 Malawi locations (Nyika, Mulanje and Lake Malawi) in the final article of 26 – no other country in Africa had more and many countries didn’t appear at all. National Geographic needs no introduction as probably the best known, and iconic, magazine around the world. Each year they publish a list of ‘Best Trips’ and Malawi made it into the 20 Best Trips for 2013. The list was published in the December/January edition of the US-published National Geographic Traveller magazine and it also appeared online which you can view by clicking here.

MSN is another massive global website, run by Microsoft. They picked up on National Geographic’s list and re-published it as their own Top 10 Must see Places of 2013. Despite being halved from the original 20, Malawi stayed on this list. Click here to see the full list.

The Huffington Post – the international news, features and lifestyle portal that boasts 3.2 Million readers (and growing) a month. Their article which you can view by clicking here was also picked up by a number of other sites and pages.

Globe Spots is a site run by an independent group of ‘professional travellers’. In November, they listed Malawi as one of their Top 10 Destinations for 2013. Click here to view Malawi's listing.

Examiner is a lifestyle/news website based in the USA. A Malawi article was published in November. Lake Malawi, described as 'God's Aquarium, was strongly featured and certainly heavily praised. You can view the article by click here.

Devon Life is a regional, upmarket lifestyle magazine in the South West of the UK. They ran two articles in recent editions that covered Malawi. The first article in their December issue covered the Book Bus in Malawi (at Fisherman’s Rest) over 4 pages (click here to read) and the second, in their January issue, covers Lake Malawi (particularly Pumulani) over 3 pages (click here to read).

Barefoot Luxury is a blog that highlights ‘some of the most incredible wilderness & wildlife travel experiences throughout Eastern & Southern Africa’. They had a recent entry about why Malawi & Mozambique may be the next big thing on the safari scene. Click here to read the blog.
