As a widely recognised up-and-coming African destination Malawi is quite often the subject of hot travel gossip and articles. Malawi regularly appears in global 'Top Ten' lists and whilst every journalist has a different experience in Malawi, they all return inspired. Please click on the links below to see what well known magazines such as Wanderlust, online sites such as the Huffington Post and national broadsheet such as The Guardian have to say!

December 2015

National Geographic is a media hosue that needs no introduction. Their 'Nat Geo Kids' magazine has gone wild for Malawi in recent months a culminated in coverage of Liwonde National Park and rhino tracking over series of double page spreads in their December edition. 'Rhino Patrol' was also the cover feature. Take a look at PDF's of the magazine here, here and here. The 'How to be a Rhino Ranger' article, based on Liwonde NP, was also posted up on their website. in addition to its' coverage of Malawi in every edition of the printed magazine, Travel Africa posted up a list on its website of Top 5 Things to do in Malawi this month. Take a look at the article here

Malawi is so often described as a 'magical' destination and with good reason. TNT Magazine focussed on Lake Malawi for its 'Malawi Magic' article. (Which was also the top story in their December newsletter) Have a look here

National Geograhic Traveller is one of the top travel magazines in the world. Malawi has been appearing regularly this year and in December there was a full feature on the country, plus a competition to win a holiday, both of which also appeared online. Huffington Post is one of the top news sites in the world with 10s of millions of readers. Their round up of Africa's Most Beautiful Beaches of course included Lake Malawi. Click here to see the article

More and more people are learning of Malawi's charms but it still warrants the 'Best Kept Secret' tag given to it in an article in The Travel Magazine this month. Check it out here

In a rather bizarre turn of events, an album featuring music and singing from inmates at Zomba prison has been nominated for a Grammy award - the top awards in the music industry. Understandably, this gained a fair bit of coverage, including articles from Rolling Stone, The Guardian, The Independent & Lonely Planet

Capital FM's Lifestyle Magazine picked up on a couple of our press releases this month, publishing pieces on the development in Malawi's parks and reserves and Malawi's 'Blue Zebra'. View the articles here and here

November 2015

Malawi appeared again in National Geographic's 'Nat Geo Kids' magazine. This month the feature was on tea and one of Malawi's best known tea estates, Satemwa. Take a look here

A number of publications weren't fooled by our 'Blue Zebras in Malawi' press release headline and duly pulished articles about the unique, colourful fish in the lake. Examiner here & The Travel & Leisure Magazine here

When Lonley Planet Magazine visited Malawi a couple of years ago, photograher Jonathan Gregson took some absolutely stunning images. This month, Lonley Planet have published a new book 'Wild World', a collection of full page breath-taking images of the natural world. Of course they included one of Jonathan's Malawi images. Travel blog Ubuntu Travel found a good '7 reasons why Malawi is the most underrated travel destination in Africa' Take a look 

Josette King is an author, photographer and world traveller. She has been in Malawi and wrote a lovely piece about Malawi's Lake of Stars. Read the article here

The inflight magazine of South African Airways is the ever excellent SawubonaTheir December edition, published this month, had a 'Top 10 Things You've Simply Got to Do' from around the world that included swimming in Lake Malawi! (P.96) Have a look here

The exciting developments in Malawi's national parks with the take-over of two more protected areas by African Parks has been filtering across the travel media, with two more picking up on the news this month: Go Holiday Worldwide here, and Southsea Wanderer here

October 2015

National Geographic is a media house that needs no introduction. Their 'Nat Geo Kids' magazine has a series of Malawi-based features coming up and their first, all about bats, appeared in their October edition over two double page spreads. Take a look here and here

June 2015

Appearing on MSN was a CNN ‘Inside Africa’ video entitled ‘Mount Mulanje: Malawi’s oldest kept secret’ exploring the country’s sacred locations and archaeological treasures, starting with Mount Mulanje. Watch the video here

Capital FM’s Lifestyle Magazine in Kenya listed its Top 7 Music Festivals in Africa and of course includes Malawi’s Lake of Stars Festival. Have a look at it here

Upmarket regional magazine Cotswold Life in the UK gave an overview of the charms of Malawi and the variety it has to offer its visitors. Malawi is one of Africa’s smallest but most stunning and welcoming countries’. Read the article here

CNN again included Malawi in it’s image-driven piece on ‘Alternative Africa Travel experiences, using the well known image of the ‘flying’ kayaks at Mumbo island to highlight the charms of Lake Malawi. Click here to take a look

National Geographic Traveller publishes ‘The Collection’, a travel site and series of beautiful coffee table magazines profiling exciting destinations, beautiful resorts and unique experiences around the world. Malawi’s Robin Pope Safaris  and its two properties, Pumulani and Mkulumadzi were included in the latest edition. Check it out here

A visit to Nkwichi Lodge on Lake Malawi lives long in the memory and the Best Adventure Blog were well and truly hooked on their trip, marking it down as ‘truly one of the most spectacular places I have ever been to in my life and also a huge tick off of my bucket list’. Click here

May 2015

Curious Animal, an online magazine for ‘Adventure Travel, Photography, Music, Books, Big Issues and Ideas from around the world’ gave a run down of the ’10 Coolest Music Festivals’. Of course, Malawi’s Lake of stars was second on the list and acclaimed as ‘one of the most beautiful festival settings in the world.’  Have a look at the list here

 

ATTA, the African Travel & Tourism Association noted Malawi’s emergence as a self drive destination on its news pages. Click here to read it

Leading South African travel magazine, Getaway covered its ‘Top 10 Eco-Friendly Lodge in Africa and included the amazing Nkwichi Lodge on the shores of Lake Malawi. Take a look at the list here

Travel portal, Travelsupermarket.com ran a blog entry on ‘12 Beach Hotels with Amazing Views’. With selections form around the world and as far afield as the UK, Bali, Crete and Mexico, it was great to see Lake Malawi’s own Kaya Mawa third on the list. Click here

April 2015 

Women’s lifestyle magazine, Elle rounded up its ’10 hot beach holiday destinations’ and was another to recognise the charms of Lake Malawi, specifically Kaya Mawa on Likoma Island. Take a look at the list here

Travel Africa, the only magazine in the UK dedicated to travel in Africa, ran another Malawi feature in its Spring 2015 edition. This time covering Nkhotakota Wildlife reserve, the country’s relatively unexplored protected area. Click here to read the article (also on P.54 of the magazine itself)
