Kenya Airways Opens Up Malawi Tourism, by Red Savannah

Kenya Airways has recently announced it will be making 3 flights a week to Blantyre, Malawi. The new service hopes to give tourists and visitors the opportunity to discover Southern Malawi close up and personal with the very best safari tours across the country.

Blantyre is close to Malawi’s most dense game areas with a rife population of Lichtenstein's hartebeest, nyala and buffalo. Leopards were introduced back into the reserves in 2012 which has helped to grow the country’s collection of big cats. With a developing population of wildlife, Blantyre is an ideal holiday destination for visitors interested in venturing to see the African nature.

The growing demand for Malawi holidays has also meant a growing demand for top class accommodation and restaurants. Mkulumadzi Safari Lodge has done well to meet this demand while keeping the unique intimacy with nature. Comprising of 8 contemporary chalets each with a viewing deck of the riverbank, the safari lodge provides guests with close by view of hippo and other antelope that are regular visitors to the river. The Lodge also boasts all the luxuries expected from first class accommodation such as a plunge pool overlooking the African bushveld and an outdoor waterfall shower.

Mkulumadzi Safari Lodge has a fantastic range of activities and excursions allowing guests to experience first hand, wildlife in its natural environment. Offering game drives, bush walks and cultural village visits, the safari lodge puts on enough variety to last an entire stay in the heart of Southern Malawi. The safari lodge also mindfully appreciates the importance of relaxation and provides the ideal environment for guests to put their feet up after a busy morning trekking through the wilderness on the game walks.

Set among 70,000 hectares of dense bushveld, it is home to many species of antelope and big cats. After the introduction of the leopard in 2012, the surrounding areas accommodate the complete “big five” which includes rhino, lion, elephant, leopard and buffalo. Games drives operated from the Lodge give guests the opportunity to experience the vast wildlife that inhabit Southern Malawi up close and personal.

Offering a more than a realistic insight into rural Malawi, Mkulumadzi Safari Lodge is almost completely self sufficient with solar power generating electricity to the whole site and fresh water sourced right from the Lodge’s borehole. The chalets have been built environmentally friendly with sloping vegetated roofs growing shrubs and other indigenous plants.

With Kenya Airways added to the bill, Blantyre Airport has expanded its’ flight portfolio twofold in recent years and now visitors come from Johannesburg, Zambia and other local parts of Africa. The vast availability of flights to Malawi also attracts tourists from the United Kingdom, America and Australia. Voted by Lonely Planet as the second most friendly country in the world, Malawi prides itself on welcoming guests with open arms and provides everlasting memories of Africa.
