Siblings Maddy and Cameron McAllister have just finished their third season of owning/ operating the Mushroom Farm, a quirky eco-lodge perched on the edge of a cliff in Malawi's northern mountains, overlooking the lake. CAWS build Research Centre in Liwonde National ParkPosted on: Friday, September 11, 2015 / 00:00 hrs

A research facility funded by Central African Wilderness Safaris, has been built at Mvuu Camp in Malawi's Liwonde National Park to host the work being conducted by conservation projects of the UK charity Conservation Research Africa. The new facility now means that researchers from both Carnivore Research Malawi and African Bat Conservation have a designated space for lab based analysis.

Satemwa - Coffee tours and a new swimming poolPosted on: Monday, September 07, 2015 / 00:00 hrs

The coffee picking season is drawing to a close at Huntingdon House. This year the lodge hosted five very successful coffee tours. A day on tour at Satemwa would include a guided walk through the coffee plantation, watching the ripe cherries being picked and learning about the different varieties of coffee grown on the estate. To finish the tour off, the Satemwa guests would take part in a coffee tasting or 'cupping', hosted by the Satemwa GM. The tours were very popular and will be continued next year.

Pumulani, being the African island-style paradise that it is, is best known for providing unforgettable Malawi lakeshore experiences; however, recently there has been a large gain in popularity for mountain biking. Pumulani has a vast network of trails and paths that connect the local villages to each other, making mountain biking an excellent way to explore the island and meet the locals. This is what recent guest, Kyle, had to say about it: 'My wife and I chose to hire mountain bikes as many of the paths on the island are dirt...It was great! The paths were not difficult and they allowed us to see the lesser known parts of the Lake and really take in the scenery.'

The reintroduction of lions marked a significant milestone in the rehabilitation of Malawi's 70, 000 hectare Majete Wildlife Reserve Reserve. The non-profit organisation African Parks has been systematically resurrecting Majete since assuming management of the park in 2003 and created an environment within which lions can once again thrive. In August 2012 three lions were introduced to Majete, including a two year old female called Shire.

Nkwichi is proud to introduce Mpasa, their new and superfast Boston Whaler! With this newest addition to their fleet, the transfer from Likoma Airstrip to Nkwichi Lodge can now be done within the hour. With sun cover, comfortable benches and seating on the front deck for the more adventurous, it takes 4-6 passengers at a time. The name 'Mpasa' refers to cichlids endemic to Lake Malawi, and Mpasa really is like a fish in Nkwichi's waters.

Over the last month the Madzi Alipo borehole repair team have been down in the flood area helping with water sanitation, restoring boreholes in and around camps as well as in communities at high risk of Cholera outbreaks.

Saturday February 7th 2015 saw some of Malawi's top musicians perform at flood benefit concerts in Lilongwe, Blantyre and Mzuzu. The Lilongwe event, which took place at Sunbird Capital Hotel, had Lucius Banda as the headline act and was supported by Central African Wilderness Safaris (CAWS) who donated a raffle prize of one night's stay for two at Chelinda Lodge. CAWS also donated two further prizes to flood disaster fundraising events taking place in Nottingham UK, consisting of one night's stay for two at Chelinda Lodge, alongside two nights stay for two at Chintheche Inn.
