After a year's break, Malawi's biggest international arts event, the Lake of Stars Festival, is returning to the central region for its 15th anniversary celebrations. The three day extravaganza will take place this year in a new location in Leopards Bay, Lifuwa Salima. The festival, which was recently voted one of the World's Best in the Fest300 Awards, is being held from September 28 - September 30 at the newly constructed, Malawi-owned, Kabumba Hotel resort, situated at the foot of Senga Hills in Salima.

The Government of Malawi and African Parks have just announced the signing of the agreement to expand their management of Liwonde National Park to include Mangochi Forest Reserve, a 320 km2 adjoining forest and water catchment area. Lions Reintroduced to Liwonde National Park in MalawiPosted on: Monday, March 05, 2018 / 00:00 hrs

Four years after the last lion was seen in Liwonde, African Parks have reintroduced the first of several wild lions back into the National Park. In partnership with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW), and with support from the Dutch Government and the Lion Recovery Fund, two mature males were released into enclosed bomas in the park after being safely translocated from Majete Wildlife Reserve, where lions were reintroduced in 2012.

In one of the largest and most significant translocations in human history, African Parks' conservation efforts bring the total number of elephants on the move in Malawi to 400. These elephants have travelled 350km from Liwonde National Park and 600 km from Majete Wildlife Reserve to Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve. The final 100 of the historic #500Elephants will be moved in the coming weeks.

Cheetahs translocated from South Africa to Liwonde National Park in Malawi, returning the threatened species to the country. A small founder population of cheetahs has been successfully relocated to Liwonde National Park in Malawi, restoring the severely threatened species at least twenty years after its extinction in the country. Led by African Parks, a conservation non-profit that manages national parks and protected areas on behalf of governments across the continent, in partnership with the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) and Malawi's Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW), the translocation of four cheetahs to Liwonde on May 17th formed a national milestone as the first big cats made their return to the flourishing park.
