4* Ranking for Tongole

Malawi’s Tongole Wilderness Lodge is one of the country’s true gems when it comes to accommodation. Situated in the Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve it’s in an area relatively untouched, and offers rugged landscapes, thrilling wildlife, and fun activities. Footie Frenzy at Kaya Mawa

A week of football madness recently excited Likoma Island as Kaya Mawa hosted the third “Kaya Mawa Cup.”

Kaya Mawa flew in two coaches and four semi-professional players (‘the Tourists’ from the Old Meadwonians Football Club in the UK). Training sessions were arranged with six schools on the island and hundreds of kids turned up. On the Wednesday the Kaya Mawa XI took on the Likoma Island ‘All Stars’. The match ended in a win for the islanders in front of a home crowd of over 2000 people.

News from Majete

After some late rains in June, the vegetation and plant life at the Majete Wildlife Reserve flourished. This not only made the landscape even more beautiful, but also gave the wildlife and big animals an excuse to come out and feast!. Fourteen camera traps have also been set up in strategic areas and water holes throughout the reserve by the Majete research programme to capture animals as they move around the reserve.

An update from Wilderness Safaris

In recent months Wilderness Safaris have had plenty to keep them busy, with all their camps being busy. Wilderness Safaris are responsible for Chelinda Lodge, Chelinda Camp, Mvvu Lodge, Mvuu Camp, Chintheche Inn, Heuglin’s Lodge and Mumbo Island Camp.

 

The last few months have been filled with community outreach programs; two of which being community sensitization meetings in Dongolituwa and Mazembe, under Village Headmen Jiliki and Mphimbi - over 200 community members were present across both sites.

Guided walks new for Bua

Bua River Lodge in the NKhotakota Wildlife Reserve is now offering a complete range of guided walking safaris. Walks are available from short, two-hour strolls along the river, to arduous yet exhilarating 12 hour hikes through the hills, as well as overnight, bush-camping experiences. Bua River Lodge is a small and unique, owner-managed lodge, where you are sure to feel at home and guaranteed to relax. The reserve, covering 1,800,000 Hectares, is the third largest protected area in Malawi and one of the least known. The walking safaris give guests the opportunity to explore this untouched wilderness on foot.

With baby cubs, rhino tracking, new bird life emerging, not to mention a famous visit, Mkulumadzi and Pumulani have been far from quiet in recent months!

Tay Grin, dubbed the Nyau King, has taken the Malawian music local scene by storm since his launch of his album Proudly African.  The Channel O nominated artist, needed no introduction to the Pumulani staff, who were all excited about his visit thre.  Management however needed a little education. This came in the form of Pumulani inviting in the local villagers to come and perform the Gulu Wamkulu dance for the guests, which is where Tay Grin got his musical inspiration.
