An update from Jambo Africa: Nyala Lodge, a brand new property and LengweÕs roads

Nyala lodge, owned by Malawi's Jambo Africa and situated only 75km from bustling Blantyre, has recently seen a number of key improvements, including a brand new Conference Centre and two double story self catering units.

 

As well as this Jambo Africa has also added a brand new property. The new lakeshore property boasts a swimming pool and enough room within it to sleep 8.

 

The past month has also seen Jambo oversee much needed improvements take place at Lengwe National Park thanks to a World Bank Project.

Winter at Nyika National Park sees an influx of wonderful wildlife ready for visitors

June brings winter in Malawi with cold evenings and warm afternoons. The Nyika National Park is experiencing temperatures as low as 0 degrees Celsius with frost on the paths in the early morning. Simultaneously the landscape takes on the golden brown look of the mid dry season.  LiwondeÕs famous elephant herds are regularly coming into the Wilderness camps and lodges in search of food and water, giving guests some amazing close encounters, while the leopard sightings in Chelinda are becoming more and more frequent.

 

As winter approaches animals are again starting to look to the river as a source of water and food.

The past few months have seen a number of exciting developments from one of Malawis premium eco-tourism ventures, the Tongole Wilderness Lodge. After a re-assessment of Tongoles airstrip, the lodge is excited to announce its approval for operations for 2014/15.

Majete Wildlife Reserve introduces new Rhino calf and exciting safari by boat

The second quarter of 2014 has been a busy one for African Parks and Majete Wildlife Reserve. On the 19th of April one of the female rhino, Cassia gave birth to a new calf bringing the number of black rhino to fourteen in Majete. Her 2 year old sub adult male calf has now separated from her and is on its own.

 

Majete is also pleased to announce an exciting new opportunity for visitors to partake in safari via boat. With hippos, crocs, and a mulitude of wildlife drawn to the water enjoying a safari by boat is a great experience. A new eight seater tourism boat has now been launched and tested, and is ready and waiting for guests.

Game Haven Lodge announce continued growth of already impressive herd


Game Haven Lodge, situated in the Chimwenya Game Park, are pleased to announce the continued growth of their already impressive game herd. After the most recent birth, the number of Roans within the park has increased to 4, with the other female still pregnant. Miss G, the female giraffe of the park is also looking heavily pregnant, with her expected to give birth within the next 3 months. With this constant growth, to what is now a 151 strong herd, Game Haven are now exploring the possibility of relocating some of their species to allow more space for roaming. This may include species such as the sable, which already has a sizeable herd of 45.

Malawi takes it coffee to Germany with Kafrika – AfricaÕs finest coffee  

Coffee plays only a secondary role in Malawi, at least economically. Only two thousand metric tons of coffee being grown annually. Only half of that will find its way to other countries through exports. Overall, Malawi captures a negligible part of the WorldÕs coffee trade. Nevertheless, coffee farmers from this small country produce coffee of quality they should be proud of.

 

The team from kafrika discovered just that: MalawiÕs fine coffee. Early in May, specialty coffee online store Ōkafrika – africaÕs finest coffeeĶ opened its virtual doors. The name says it all: at kafrika, the three team members Lars Gyšrvari, Hermann Sorg and Dietmar Beyer, focus 100% on African-sourced coffee beans.
