Thyolo Tea Estates
Founded in 1923 by Maclean Kay, an immigrant from Scotland, Satemwa Tea Estate has been owned and managed by the Cathcart Kay family for generations. Chawani Bungalow and Huntingdon House have recently been refurbished in a partnership between Ulendo Travel Group and the estate with a view to sharing this important part of Malawi’s history with guests to the area.

Originally the family home built in 1928, Huntingdon House exudes a colonial charm and unique character that cannot be recreated. This magnificent house forms the heart of Satemwa Tea Estate and is surrounded by sprawling manicured gardens with secret patios and terraces waiting to be discovered by guests.

The house has been tastefully refurbished to offer 5 Planters suites including the converted family chapel. Guests are encouraged to share the colourful history of one of Malawi’s oldest homes whilst being spoilt by a team of professionals. Huntingdon offers accommodation on a bed and breakfast or fully inclusive basis and a broad range of activities is available to keep even the most active visitor busy.
