Northern Lakeshore
Nestled around a secluded cove on the Sangilo peninsula, the Sanctuary provides an idyllic escape to the northern lakeshore. Opened in December 2004 it has rapidly become recognised as a place where good food, a friendly bar and stunning scenery can be enjoyed in perfect peace along with the enchanting secret beach, unique rock "caves" and crystal clear waters.

The Sanctuary is run on eco-friendly principles: power is from solar panels, "airconditioning" is by careful planning of buildings and windows to make the most of lake breezes.

The tastefully furnished cliff-top chalets (some ensuite, all at reasonable rates) provide unique views along the peninsula, to Chilumba island, and to the mountains across Lake Malawi. Campers find a comfortable site with shower and toilet block in secure surroundings. On the beach is a restaurant deck and bar. Fresh fish are brought daily by local fishermen and frequently appear on the simple but carefully prepared menu.

Fishing, watersports and mountain biking are on offer. Day trips to Livingstonia mission, abseilling off Manchewe falls and the Karonga Museum can be arranged, as well as safaris to Nyika and Vwaza.
