The Sanctuary Lodge, opened in 2008, is a new eco-friendly lodge on the banks of the Lingadzi river. Individual, spacious, air conditioned en suite chalets, each with its own veranda and view of the surrounding woodland, offer guests unique accommodation in central Lilongwe. The lodge is situated in 90 hectares of natural woodland within the Lilongwe Nature Sanctuary. Birdlife is prolific and the area is home to small mammals and primates. The air conditioned restaurant and bar offer a selection of fabulous choices. Lawned gardens and a swimming pool provide a perfect setting to enjoy the natural ambience. For budget visitors, a spacious and independent campsite is available nearby.

Across the river, the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre (supported by the Born Free Foundation UK), offers guests the opportunity to explore wilderness trails in the Nature Sanctuary. For lodge guests, sundowners and bird walks along the river can be arranged as can VIP tours of the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, giving an interesting insight into wildlife conservation and rehabilitation work in Malawi. Land and Lake Safaris, who operate the lodge, have pledged a percentage of its profits to the Centre to support its wildlife efforts.
